Shadi Shokoohi
Coventry , United Kingdom
Artist Shadi Shokoohi paints impressionist skyscapes that explore the beauty found in emotion. "Each movement in my work mirrors the places I have lived and the feelings tied to those journeys," says Shadi. Growing up in Iran, she began painting miniature art at age 11 and later honed her skills in carpet design at the University of Isfahan and in visual arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. She spent 15 years teaching art in Iran, strengthening her belief in the power of creative freedom. Now based in the UK, she draws inspiration from the open countryside and ever-changing sky. Her vibrant colors and fluid forms invite the viewer to reflect on their own inner worlds and embrace the richness of human experience. Shadi works from a cozy studio in the West Midlands with music playing and her cat nearby. Outside of painting, she enjoys cooking, films, and long walks in nature.
Artist Statement
As a UK-based painter originally from Iran, my artistic journey began at a young age, rooted in the traditions of Iranian miniature painting. My cultural heritage remains a source of deep inspiration and continues to shape how I express emotion through art. I later expanded my practice through formal studies at the University of Isfahan and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where I embraced both contemporary approaches and classical techniques.
During my 15 years of teaching art in Iran, I learned how creativity can empower and transform. That time reinforced my belief in freedom of expression and the importance of honoring our emotions. In my paintings, I explore the beauty of feeling without restraint. Each brushstroke reflects my inner world and invites viewers to connect with their own experiences.
Vibrant color and fluid movement guide my work, offering a sense of openness and release. I also draw inspiration from artists like Mark Rothko, whose emotional use of color resonates with me. My intention is to celebrate life and the human spirit by encouraging others to embrace what they feel and see the beauty within it.
