Artist Michael Wedge creates surrealist images that explore the contrast between urban lifestyles and rural settings. 'My work reflects my curiosity about how viewers relate to their environment,' says Michael. He also delves into themes of time, perception, and emotion, drawing inspiration from the human relationship with technology and nature. Encouraged by his family, he has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember, developing a distinctive style shaped by the media he uses. Working in a small home studio with natural light, he incorporates photography and digital collaging to craft intuitive, whimsical narratives. In addition to his successful art career, Michael teaches art to 400 kids at a local public school and enjoys woodworking and frisbee.

				Artist Statement
I create paintings that depict everyday scenes with a dreamlike twist. While my work begins with recognizable, naturalistic elements, a closer look reveals peculiar situations. Deer and foxes appear in the city, while traffic lights and parking meters show up in the woods. The contrast between city and country life is a recurring theme. To bring these concepts to life, I develop reference collages using photos of acquaintances. Employing various techniques—including layering drawings on tracing paper, cutting and gluing printed photos, and creating digital collages with tools like Pixlr—I craft surreal scenes where people and animals are displaced.
