Ruth-Anne Siegel
Palo Alto, California
Artist Ruth-Anne Siegel draws on her graphic design experience in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area to create vibrant floral paintings. "I channel my experiences into works that transform personal moments into visual expression," says Ruth-Anne. Shaped by synesthesia, her approach establishes color as the foundation of her creative practice and process-led discovery. After earning a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she spent years in graphic design while pursuing fine art sporadically. Following the birth of her third child, she returned to fine art with renewed focus, studying at Stanford University's continuing education program and building a career exhibiting and selling her work. Ruth-Anne paints in a cozy, stand-alone purple studio in her Palo Alto backyard, a space designed just for her. Outside the studio, she continues to explore creativity through graphic design, reading, skiing, and hiking, always drawing inspiration from life around her.
Artist Statement
I channel my graphic design experience in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area into color-driven works that transform personal experiences into visual expression. Shaped by synesthesia, I use color as the foundation of my creative practice and process-led discovery. My art reflects my experience of motherhood, as I intuitively respond to chaos and change while drawing inspiration from life's beautiful disorder. I hold a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My education includes study with Assaf Evron, Terri Kapsalis, Gracia Melanson, Molly Zuckerman-Hartung, and Richard Merkin.
