Pascal Giroud | Artist Profile Photo
Pascal Giroud
Mison, France
Artist Pascal Giroud, a self-taught painter, works primarily in oil to create impressionist still lifes and scenes of the French countryside. “I paint in a single session, alla prima, to preserve the spontaneity of the present moment,” says Pascal. Before becoming a professional painter about twenty years ago, he studied music, sound engineering, computer programming, and computer graphics—a field he worked in while developing his art. His studio is a medium-sized, tidy room in his home, lit by several windows that allow him to adjust the natural light. Still, his favorite place to paint is outdoors, where nature offers the ideal workshop. In his free time, Pascal enjoys making music with family and friends and strolling through the countryside, always on the lookout for new subjects to capture.

Artist Statement

As a self-taught painter, I create my works in the style of the Impressionists, often painting directly from nature. I work in a single session, alla prima, to preserve the spontaneity of the present moment. While I have experimented with various mediums, oil paint remains my favorite. Nature serves as my infinite source of inspiration, offering an abundance of subjects and emotions. My initial influences were the painters of the Barbizon School and the Impressionists, but today, my sole source of inspiration is nature. While it’s difficult to predict my future approach, I find myself gravitating toward a form of purification in my work, focusing on removing the superfluous to emphasize the essential with the greatest economy of means.
