Oksana Johnson | Artist Profile Photo
Oksana Johnson
Petaluma, California
Artist Oksana Johnson paints serene cities and breathtaking natural vistas with soft painterly strokes and delicate depictions of light—embodying the tradition of impressionism in the style's truest sense. "I am constantly striving to express more accurately the happiness and joy I feel while trying to capture the beauty of the world and its special moments," says Oksana. She studied with exceptional artists she admired in the US and Europe. Oksana often paints plein air but mainly works in her home studio, using various brushes, palette knives, and sometimes her hands to give life to her textured presentations. Reading, traveling, and spending time with her loving family help her unwind and keep her inspired. Oksana has participated in numerous local and international group shows, with one of her pieces receiving a first-place award from the Society of Western Artists.

Artist Statement

I am an impressionist painter in the San Francisco Bay Area. My strongest influences come from French Impressionism and post-Impressionism, including Degas, Monet, Renoir, Berthe Morisot, Van Gogh, and Bonnard. My paintings have been displayed in two separate exhibitions at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. I have studied with a number of master artists in the U.S. and Europe.

I am constantly striving to express more accurately the happiness and joy I feel while trying to capture the beauty of the world and its special moments.

I primarily paint in oils but also enjoy working in other media such as charcoal, watercolor, and pastels. I am continuing to improve my technical skills. I particularly enjoy experimenting with color and texture, since I feel those two important elements of painting best allow me to express how I feel about my subjects.

My works are in private collections in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
