Naoko Tadotsu
Fayetteville, Georgia
Artist Naoko Tadotsu creates expressive, prismatic paintings inspired by her deep appreciation for the colors and light found in nature. "I am always in awe of colors and lights in nature, and I try to express that feeling," says Naoko. Originally from Osaka, Japan, she moved to New York over two decades ago and began studying at the Art Students League, where she discovered her love for oil painting. Her compositions often border on abstraction, portraying trees as living beings that, like people, "show different faces." Naoko’s palette shifts with the seasons, from cool pastels in early summer to warm reds and golds in autumn. She paints from her apartment studio in New York City, often with classic rock playing in the background. Outside of art, she enjoys walking, reading, and watching movies.
Artist Statement
I am always in awe of the colors and light in nature, and I try to express that feeling in my work.
My roots of inspiration trace back to my upbringing in Osaka, where I was surrounded by the rich tapestry of color and light in the natural world. When I moved to New York, I became deeply immersed in art and fell in love with its boundless possibilities.
The unspoken inspiration I carried within me began to find its voice on the canvas. My art often ventures into abstraction as I strive to convey my connection to nature, painting it as a living, distinct presence. Just as trees reveal many faces, my pieces invite viewers to see their own perspectives within them.
All I need is a portable easel and the timeless melodies of classic rock to set my creative spirit in motion. Beyond art, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and taking long walks, where I absorb the beauty around me and transform those moments into luminous inspiration for my work.
