Mikhail Zuyeu

Artist Mikhail Zuyeu creates balanced, structured compositions infused with vivid color and natural motifs. "I intend to bring joy, calm, and happiness in every painting I create," says Mikhail. Influenced strongly by the elegance and geometry of Art Deco, his work combines clarity of form with organic harmony, often featuring trees, sunlight, and water. A self-taught artist, Mikhail first trained as an architect and began his career in 1978 before returning to painting after his retirement in 2019. He now works in a light-filled garage studio in the Pacific Northwest, where music accompanies his creative process. When not painting, Mikhail enjoys reading, traveling, and listening to music.
Artist Statement
I am a professional architect and visual artist based in Seattle. After completing my studies at the Architectural Institute, I began my career in architecture in 1978 and retired in 2019. After retirement, I picked up painting.
Working primarily in oil and mixed media (oil combined with acrylic), I have developed a distinctive style influenced by the elegance and geometry of Art Deco. My work is characterized by clarity of form, structured compositions, and a strong sense of balance, often enhanced through vivid color contrasts.
Nature plays an important role in my artistic language. Trees, sunlight, and water frequently appear as motifs that enrich my architectural sensibility with organic harmony. My paintings are memorable for their expressive visual impact and their ability to evoke a sense of uplift in the viewer.
