Mark Cudd
Braselton, Georgia
Artist Mark Cudd creates monochromatic portraits that explore the emotional layers of memory and the human experience. “My work should remind you of something,” says Mark. His paintings often stir a quiet sense of nostalgia, aiming to establish a dialogue based on common experiences, fears, ideas, and memories. Primarily self-taught, Mark draws from 20th-century photography—old family albums, found images, and his own snapshots—to shape stories that feel both familiar and imagined. His process blends multiple techniques and styles within a single image, giving each piece a distinct rhythm and psychological depth.

Artist Statement
I’m primarily a self-taught artist, and my work centers around the human experience, both real and imagined. I draw much of my inspiration from 20th-century photography, which I use as a key reference in my creative process.
I often combine multiple techniques and styles within a single image. This approach allows me to explore the strengths and limitations of photography, not just in how it captures personal memories visually and emotionally, but also in how it shapes them psychologically.
