Lynne Meneses
Wantagh, New York
Artist Lynne Meneses creates vibrant Expressionist and Abstract paintings that explore the intersection of emotion, color, and form. "What isn't immediately visible is the thought and intention behind each piece," says Lynne. Born with a deep love for creativity, she studied under Chen Yong Xiang in Beijing, who instilled classical foundations during the Cultural Revolution, and later under Professor Madeleine Gekiere in New York, who expanded her artistic vision. Her work reflects this dialogue between traditional and contemporary approaches, informed by her personal experiences and beliefs. Lynne paints from a sun-filled studio on the South Shore of Long Island, just a mile from the Atlantic Ocean, where the upper level is dedicated to painting and the lower level houses storage and framing. Outside the studio, she studies art to expand her practice and swims regularly to recharge, keeping her grounded and continually evolving. Her paintings invite viewers to connect with beauty, joy, and the depth of human experience.
Artist Statement
My artwork is categorized into two styles: Expressionism and Abstract, using acrylic on canvas. It channels the vibrant spirit of the Blue Rider movement and reflects the lyrical use of color, as seen in the work of Henri Matisse. E. Kirchner and R. Diebenkorn have also influenced me. My journey as an artist began with a love and longing for creativity and a belief in the transformative power of visual language. I aim to evoke beauty, joy, and a sense of wonder in others.
My art journey was shaped by two remarkable mentors: Chen Yong Xiang in Beijing, who taught me classical foundations during the Cultural Revolution when schools were closed, and Professor Madeleine Gekiere in New York, who opened my creative world and transformed my path. Their influence guides my search for a voice between traditional and contemporary art.
My reference material comes from my feelings, beliefs, and lived experience. I work with acrylic, brushes, and palette knives. After choosing a subject, I select the color tone that best supports my goal, then build the composition, balance, and values before moving into details. Toward the end, I refine by removing excess colors or elements to keep the work focused and essential.
What isn't immediately visible is the thought and intention behind each piece. I build my paintings to hold both energy and depth. They are expressive yet structured, layered, and meaningful. My goal is to create work that resonates with viewers who look beyond beauty and seek a deeper connection.
