Diana Rosa
Brampton, Canada
Artist Diana Rosa creates surreal and playful paintings that explore the depth of human emotion and the interplay between the ordinary and the fantastical. "I take what is most personal and assume it is universal, transforming my experiences into stories that invite the viewer to reflect on their own lives," says Diana. Her work blends elegance, sensuality, and spirituality in dreamlike environments, with humans, animals, and plants appearing in subtly ambiguous forms. She works from a studio filled with art materials, books, and music, often painting on multiple canvases at once using easels, tables, or the floor to capture intricate detail. Diana’s process combines sketches, sharp brush strokes, palette knives, and layered acrylics to create richly colored, complex compositions. Outside the studio, she enjoys decorating and organizing her spaces, cooking, reading, gardening, traveling, exhibiting and visiting art, exercising, and watching films.
Artist Statement
I am always fascinated by the human story we are living—often untold, sometimes unrecognized, but always significant. My paintings reflect the natural beauty of human emotions, serving as a bridge from my imagination to the viewer’s. While the story I intend may differ from what is ultimately received, what matters most is the shared experience. Elegance and sensuality combine with spirituality in a contemplative, surreal environment, where landscapes convey longing and anticipation, and the ordinary blends with the fantastic. Humans, animals, and plants appear in my work with a subtle ambiguity, creating a dreamlike world that invites reflection and imagination.
I take what is most personal and assume it is universal, transforming my experiences and emotional responses into narratives that suggest a glimpse into the viewer’s own life. My drawings are portraits of the soul rather than the surface of a person, celebrating individuality and the depth of human form. I work in acrylics, building layers with sharp brush strokes, palette knives, contrasting textures, and a rich, distinctive palette to evoke complexity and emotion. Inspiration comes from my own life, my husband, and the art of Frida Kahlo, guiding me to create work that is intimate, contemplative, and passionate.
