David Kihlberg | Artist Profile Photo
David Kihlberg
Göteborg (Gothenburg) , Sweden
Swedish Artist David Kihlberg highlights nature and the quiet moments of everyday life in his paintings. He grew up in the small village of Rottne, in Småland, where his connection to its landscapes shaped him as an artist and as a person. “It’s still the place on earth I love the most,” says David. His father, also an artist, taught him color and the process of making paint at a young age. David attended art school for seven years and later balanced a healthcare career with his creative practice before returning full-time to painting. A still life course also left a lasting mark on his approach. He paints in a calm, organized studio or outdoors to find inspiration. When not painting, David enjoys time with his family, strength training, and studying art history.

Artist Statement

I’m an artist shaped by both my love for nature and a creative upbringing. My father, also an artist, introduced me to the world of color and taught me how to make traditional tempera paint using pigments and eggs, a process I still admire and respect today.

I work mainly with oil paint and find endless inspiration in the natural world. Growing up in the small village of Rottne, in Småland, I formed a deep bond with the forests and lakes around me. That landscape has stayed with me and continues to influence my work—it’s still the place I love most in the world.

It means a lot to me when someone connects with one of my paintings enough to make it part of their home. Each piece is created with care using high-quality oil paints on linen canvas, and no two are ever the same.
