Cristobal Corbeaux
Santiago, Chile
Artist Cristobal Corbeaux creates expressive sculptures that explore the human condition through form, material, and emotion. "I aim to create work that invites questioning, wonder, and a pause from everyday reality," says Cristobal. Drawn to art from an early age in Chile, his path shifted while studying architecture, when discovering sculpture became a defining moment that led him to fully commit to his practice. Largely self-taught in his early years, he developed his voice through discipline, experimentation, and the support of a close-knit community of artists. Now based in England, Cristobal is completing his Master of Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art, following a Master of Science in Architecture from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He works from a studio he describes as a "small dream factory," where ideas take physical form through an intuitive, hands-on process. Centered on manual modeling, his work reflects a deep connection between artist and material, leaving a lasting imprint in each piece.
Artist Statement
In my work, I explore the human figure and its emotions. My goal is to reveal the intimate truth of the bonds that unite us, pursuing the invisible and making it tangible.
My choice of materials, such as bronze, resin, and steel, is intentional. I am drawn to their hardness and permanence, and I see the act of shaping them with my hands as an almost sacred gesture. Through this process, I seek to translate the invisible into presence and give form to what cannot be seen.
My practice focuses on conveying intense emotion through something still and silent. I aspire for my sculptures to coexist with people in both urban and domestic environments, creating a quiet interruption in everyday life. I hope these encounters return the viewer to something intimate and human, reconnecting them with emotional memory and a more authentic sense of self.
I deeply value manual modeling, as the connection formed through touch is essential to my work. By working directly with my hands, I leave a trace of myself within each piece, allowing that bond to endure over time.
