“In China, I see calligraphy all the time and everywhere – from Chinese New Year to Dragon Boat Festival, to Spring Couplets on gates to regular room decoration at home. I learned how to write from reading calligraphy on books. Slowly, in making art, the brush strokes naturally appear in my paintings, from big spreading and flowing paint, to thin lines and tiny dots; every move on paper is a connection to the origin of the ancient Chinese culture.” –Ying
