Sonja Sweterlitsch
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

From ballerinas to baristas, Sonja Sweterlitsch’s subjects radiate more than mere likeness. Exploring themes of femininity, sexuality, and beauty through the depiction of women, Sonja’s realistic oil paintings bear a striking resemblance to the classic glamour photography of Cecil Beaton and portraiture of John Singer Sargent. Sonja graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Art and a BA in Creative Writing. She has taught studio art classes at the Smithsonian Institute, the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, and the Trust Arts Education Center. She is married to author Thomas Sweterlitsch.
