Sidonie Caron
Portland, Oregon

English artist Sidonie Caron lives in the Pacific Northwest, where her art draws influence from Oregon’s natural beauty. Her brushstrokes are often loose yet retain the ability to depict small details–the foam of waves, a sparkling river reflection, the light hitting blades of grass. Each landscape embodies the mood of the scene. Sidonie’s color choices convey the difference between a warm sunny day, a blustery coastal afternoon, and a cool, misty outing near the water.

Ms. Caron, I am interested in the Tilikum Crossing painting, currently on loan with Portland Art Museum. Can you email me to discuss? Thank you so much.

Dear Sidonie, “Rock Formations” arrived yesterday and is even more spectacular than when I saw it online. The texture and light in it change with the time of day, so I will never see the same painting. But most of all I am inexplicably moved by it, more than by any other painting I looked at both online and in galleries. Thank you so much for your vision and skill in creating this work. I am grateful and honored to own it. Trisha Clifford

Ms. Caron, what is the name of the piece at Meriwether's? I know it's not a print now, but I want to find a print when one is made eventually -- I hope. Thank you so much.

Sidonie Caron 12/11/2012 | 4:36 PM

Spent last Saturday Dec. 8th as part of a group of artists making monoprints for a fundraiser for PICA (Portland Institute for Contemporary Art). It was a lot of fun although, I have not done printmaking since my art school days in London, and that was more years ago than I care to remember.

Sidonie Caron 12/11/2012 | 4:27 PM

Thank you for the kind words about my painting at Meriwethers, I do like that piece myself. I do not normally make prints of my work, although I have a couple of giclees available, one called "A City of Bridges" and the other "Hawthorne Bridge" which original was used as the cover of the 2010 calendar celebrating the bicentennial of that bridge.

Thank you for the compliment. So sorry about my delayed reply to you, I've been swamped lately as I am in several shows concurrently. I do believe there are prints of my work in Canada, it may take a little research on your part to find the print companies dealing with them.

R Brant 12/11/2012 | 3:05 PM

I was just at Meriwether's last week and fell in love with the colors and hidden figures in the landscape you did for them. Is it possible to get a print of this piece? In my brief time there that afternoon, it defined the palette for my new home!

Lovely work. Want to know about your work and where it is available in Canada.

Just spent a day outside the Portland Art Museum participating in a Plein Air painting session which was fun because the heatwave we've experienced here abated just in time. As I used to say in my earlier years painting the old houses in Portland only "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid day sun....." The next show that I will be part of is a juried exhibit entitled Industry & Art: Celebrating the Worker , which will take place 9/19/12 at Vigor Industries on Swan Island, this is a ship, barge and rail car building enterprise.

Thank you so much for your kind comments they are much appreciated. Cordially, Sidonie.

I love the way you blend bright and beautiful colors, and the way these paintings evoke emotion in me and joy. I also love the bridges and the detail that it takes to make them jump off the canvas as they do is just extraordinary. Your gift is extraordinary.

I have had quite a few paintings acquired by public collections in Portland OR in the last few months, mostly hospitals. I will also be included in a competitive show entitled "Industry & Art" scheduled for Nov 2012 in Portland. If you watch the TV show "Grimm" you might catch sight of one of my vertical Asian paintings called "Three Mountains & A Cat"

Sidonie Caron 1/24/2012 | 12:34 PM

January, 2012, has begun well with 4 paintings acquired by public collections in Portland, OR and 1 painting to a private collector in the UK. Happy New Year to all and I hope all artists will benefit from an uptick in the economy.
