Roxanne Steed
Mystic, Connecticut

Some paintings have the power to draw a person from across the room. Those are the artworks that Roxanne Steed loves the most. For her, the two best things about a painting are color and texture. To add interesting edges to her paintings, she uses everything from a palette knife to a squeegee. She loves celebrating the beauty of life and enjoys gardening — including “therapeutic weeding” — and planning where to travel next. She has traveled to Ireland for many years to paint.

We are very pleased with this, hanging over the mantle in our family room. It brightens the room and invokes cheerful feelings!

Happy New Year 2014! As I write this, snow is swirling outside...and I am reminded of a recent painting (now showing here with UGallery), "As Evening Falls In Winter Woods". I was looking back at some notes I had made about this painting: An outing on cross-country skis took me through winter woods last weekend. We had stayed out later than we had planned. It was only 3:00pm when we realized we needed to turn around and head back to the car so that we wouldn't be caught out after dark when the temps drop down to extreme cold. By 4:00pm the sun dips down below the treeline and begins to fall like a hot rock into the darkness...which arrives around 4:30pm. This view was beautiful, I wish had time to linger for the sight. (location Barn Island Preserve, Stonington, CT) Paintings give us the chance to re-live those wonderful memories, capturing the beauty of the day, for us to ponder & linger on...again & again.

Wow, summer in New England is 'officially' over. I've been working on some new beach scenes and sailing scenes in addition to my flowers and gardens. Each new painting is a thrill for me, (sort of like falling in love all over again). It's wonderful to have new collectors to "share the love"! Thank you!

Thanks so very much! It feels great to connect with someone who really "shares my vision"! Color is the thing I find most exciting- it's my constant 'muse' in seeing how natural light affects local color! 6/11/2012 | 12:24 AM

Roxanne -- I really love your work! It's so loose and fresh -- you don't shy away from using such bright, pure color. However, I really believe you've UNDER priced your stuff! I will keep my out for your work.
