The playful, expressionist portraits of Paulina Archambault are inspired by her girlhood. She was creative her entire childhood, and there is a delightfully naive quality retained in her current work. Paulina begins each painting directly on canvas, typically without a plan. Using knives, brushes, and acrylic paint, she develops each piece by adding then changing forms until the work feels finished. Paulina believes her artwork does not require a complex backstory. “If somebody is not moved by my art, then it won't help if I explain anything,” says Paulina. “Visual art should touch a person like lightning.”

About The Artist
I paint in acrylic on canvas or paper. I also use mixed media, like drawing and painting together. My subjects are mostly people. I'm fascinated by faces and their expressions. In my paintings I also draw on the memories of my childhood.
