Reflected in my art are the coastal and rural environments of southeastern North Carolina, my birthplace, where I still spend much of my time. I enjoy the freedom of painting these and other places from memory and imagination -- not strictly adhering to realism or photographic references. With oil paints I explore color and light, shapes and forms, while rendering a contemporary nontraditional landscape. My paintings strive to be "bold yet quiet", serene and soothing. Experimenting, learning, evolving, expressing -- to me, that's what it means to be an artist.
