Mia DelCasino is a photographer from San Diego, California whose portfolio of minimalist shoreline photography offers a soothing sense of peace in modern times. Her photographs embody a moment of stillness with strong lines, monochromatic color schemes, and her signature intentionally-blurred ocean horizon. Her images have a living quality to them - as if with an inhale, they draw viewers in, hold them for a moment in stillness, and then release them back into the world. To create a piece, Mia first selects a mood and feeling, then visits multiple locations, patiently seeking the exact angle that "feels right.” After shooting on location, she returns to the small studio in her home which is the physical manifestation of her artistic style - neat, minimalist, and with a view out onto the ocean. She cites one of her influences as the American painter Mark Rothko, whose paintings share an engrossing atmosphere with Mia’s photographs. Mia has a BA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Art and Media Communications. Her photographs are held in private and corporate collections, including Barclays Capital in NY, Shumway Capital in NY, Bridge Bank in Menlo Park, and UC San Diego among others.

About The Artist
Artist Statement
The intention of my work is to create pause…a moment of stillness where the mind stops spinning and anxiety rests just enough to fade from its sharpness and clarity. My work is still, quiet, introspective and represents true freedom. Each image is a meditation in which I can “hear” silence and immerse myself in its harmony. It is a hyper-focus on a moment that made me pause…a visual that took me in, held me for a moment and then gently let me go.
The work is intended to relieve tension and create breathing space. Elimination of visual distractions in each image leaves a respite for the viewer to let go, find clarity or simply just surrender. I feel that a deep breath, a moment of silence and feelings of pure serenity are gifts in life. In my work, I hope to give viewers that visual gift.
