Husband and wife artists Amber Flora and Matt Reid paint contemporary portraits characterized by a combination of distinct palette knife work and detailed figurative elements. After a decade of on-and-off collaborations, they created a series of paintings that surpassed their expectations. This propelled them into a professional partnership, where they united their creative talents under the moniker Matson Ambroise. "It is the culmination of two lives lived together in the pursuit of pure creativity," says Amber. Matt's art passion ignited early on, inspired by his artist mom and uncle, and Amber Flora completed her BA in Art History at California State University, Long Beach. Today, their studio is a spacious, brightly lit space overlooking miles of California's high desert. While they work, the background hums with 60s samba music as their pit bull, Marlin, keeps them company. When they're not in the studio, they enjoy adventures with their three young children and spend half the year at Manhattan Beach, their shared hometown. Additionally, Matt is a musician who tours with his rock band NORMANS, and Amber is a devoted long-distance runner.

About The Artist
Artist Statement
After decades in their own respective trades, Matt and Amber Reid have combined skills to create art that exists as two things at once, fiercely modern yet discerningly timeless, preeminently coarse but with an arrant lightness that lends each piece to an ease of, “display-ability”. Capturing a room’s attention with a song rather than a shout.
