Artist Johnny Karwan brings a sense of tranquility with his primal and traditional artwork. His work embodies a zen appreciation of patterns and nature. "There is a simple and clean flowing energy with enough detail to get lost in. There's a rhythmic balance with a clear pattern," says Johnny. The simplicity he expresses in his work is a stark contrast to his classic Edwardian flat in San Francisco, California. When he is not creating, Johnny can be found exploring San Francisco, hiking around his favorite lake, and spending time in nature. He is an alumnus of the San Francisco Art Institute.

About The Artist
Artist Statement
The colors are restricted to a limited palette, which has been initially dominated by black, off whites, neutrals and monochromes. This gives them a decidedly simple, clean and modern feel. He employs an unplanned, intuitive painting process and the spontaneous and calligraphic nature of the brush strokes allow for a flow and movement, with each stroke informing the next, and utilizing an equal amount of abandon and restraint.
Johnny lives and works in the historic Haight Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco California.
