Artist DL Watson creates abstract paintings inspired by floral and botanical forms. "My work is one of action and reaction, a response to my emotions, thoughts, and mood at its creation," says DL. Splitting her time between Florida and Oregon, she draws inspiration from the repeating patterns and rhythms found throughout the natural world. Rooted in childhood memories and personal experiences, her paintings transform intimate moments into expressive compositions that invite broad interpretation. Through layered color and fluid movement, she creates a dynamic balance between energy and harmony. DL works from two distinct studios, one nestled among the juniper trees of Central Oregon with skylights and an original brick wall, and another in South Florida, where palm trees and terracotta floors bring the surrounding landscape into her creative process.
Artist Statement
My work is an ongoing process of action and reaction, shaped by my emotions, thoughts, and state of mind as each painting unfolds. I rarely begin with a fixed plan or a vision of the finished piece. Instead, I allow the work to develop intuitively, responding to each mark, color, and decision as it emerges.
The process itself is where I find the greatest freedom. It is a space where I can express myself without judgment or anxiety, letting each layer lead naturally to the next. Every painting becomes a conversation between instinct and response, evolving until it feels complete.
Although inspiration comes from many places, I am most inspired by the creative process itself. I am constantly experimenting, searching for new effects, techniques, and ways of expressing an idea. That spirit of exploration keeps my work evolving and makes each painting a unique experience.
