Artist Autumn Rose paints expressionist botanical arrangements, finding endless inspiration in the colors of her daily life. "I am constantly driven to paint in a free-spirited style with lots of movement, big strokes, and vitality," says Autumn. She employs various media and tools to generate texture and depth in her work. Guided by intuition rather than plan, Autumn creates floral and herbage explorations with a notable focus on still life. Pastel pinks and greens are typical colors across her body of work, applied onto darker backgrounds, resulting in dramatic effects. Autumn creates intriguing layers and definitive linework, offering a delightful variety of visual cues. She affectionately calls her workspace in Phoenix a "shudio," since it is a conversion from a shed in her backyard. The area receives incredible light and breathtaking views of her desert garden whenever she paints. "It's always my hope that when someone sees my art, they will feel a sense of wonder and joy."
Artist Statement
My work explores the universe of color and texture. When I have a blank canvas in front of me, I feel limitless possibilities. I work with bold paint colors, and I am instantly inspired by the mood the shade conveys; the way red demands attention, the way yellow brings happiness, and the way blue cools the spirit. I employ a variety of media and tools, including acrylic paint, india ink, wax, and palette knife. The juxtaposition of impasto texture and delicate lines in india ink evoke wonder and curiosity in the viewer. My abstract style allows the audience a free interpretation.
I create with an intuitive process. I love to explore the way white, and intermittent bold pops of color, next to soft colors and texture create beauty. I am constantly driven to paint in a free spirited style with lots of movement, big strokes, and lots of life. My composition and subject matter is grounded in abstract expressionism. I know that a piece is completed when it has vibrance and real wow factor.
When people see my work, I want them to feel inspired. I want my compositions to stimulate emotion and feeling. I hope to convey my passion and love for life.
