Adam Garelick enjoys taking photographs that challenge the viewers’ perceptions of certain subjects. His photographs of New York try to capture a much quieter city than the fast-paced metropolis most people picture. To capture his unique snapshots, he primarily shoots late at night and works in black-and-white photography. The photography of artists like Stephen Shore and Robert Adams continue to influence his work. When he’s not photographing, he tries to be outdoors as much as possible; he enjoys golfing, running and hiking. Even during these activities, he looks for new subjects to photograph. He currently lives in Connecticut.

About The Artist
Artist Statement
It is true that Manhattan comes to life after sunset. New York roars when other cities yawn. But late at night, it is possible to be alone. Streets become a quiet refuge. Dimmed skyscrapers slip seamlessly into the night sky. Central Park transforms into a sanctuary of solitude.
The urban night gives me the chance to escape the crush of anonymity that defines city life -- it offers the opportunity to reclaim my individuality. When I am alone among streets and bridges and skyscrapers and parks, they somehow become mine, and mine alone. I lay claim to them, possess them, if only for a brief moment in time. These are the moments that confirm my individuality, my authorship, my place.
