    About The Artist

    Artist Statement

I like to work in different genres: still-life, landscape, flowers, cityscape, fish and ponds, cats, and symbolic figurative compositions. When drawing gentle and mysterious images of women, I strive to express joy, peace, and harmony. For me, harmony is the poetry of lines and colors that have a life of their own.

Dye on silk is the vessel that delivers ideas to my mind, like visual Haikus that capture the breathtaking moment when light hits water and I observe what might have been seen through the eyes of a dragonfly gliding over the pond. My paintings are bright and decorative. Full of joy and happiness.

I like to create beautiful scenes of places. Prague is one of my favorites, as it has a fairy tale feeling to match my designs. Each artwork always starts with a drive to create something beautiful that I love.

I am a “cat” person. I love having them in my home. I own two beautiful cats, whose grace and elegance inspires me to make cats a recurring theme in my art.

I devote my art to silk painting lovers. My paintings are exhibited in galleries and art shows. My silk wall hangings have been purchased extensively for public and private collections.

A Few Words about Painting on Silk:

Yes, I create art on fabric, with silk as a canvas. Why silk painting? Each technique has its own beauty. For people who enjoy different textures, silk is a pleasure for the eyes. The shimmer and transparency of silk creates a delightful surface, good to touch whether you are wearing silk or hanging a painting on your wall.

When applied, liquid dyes and paints flow and move in a way that is truly exhilarating to watch! In order to stop this movement, a material called a resist is used to stop the dyes forming on the silk and to create an outline for the image being depicted, adding dramatic dimension.

Once the painting is completed, the dyes need to be steam-fixed in order to become color-fast. This also causes the colors to become brighter and more intense. The piece is then stretched, painted on the sides, and ready to hang.

I obtained master's degrees in Fine Arts with a major in Oil painting and Art history from the Khabarovsk Fine Art & Graphic University Far East of Russia. I then spent the first ten years of my artistic career as a teacher of collegiate art classes. While teaching college, I discovered and fell in love with the mystery and magic of painting on silk.

Painting on silk has been my main technique for more than twenty years now. Since 1997, I've lived in beautiful Colorado with my husband, who is also an artist, my teenage son, and our two sweet cats.

Aside from painting, I like hiking and biking. I instantly fell in love with the state of Colorado. I feel it is truly my home now.

Hi Yelena, I just received this stunning painting. It is so beautiful! I love how the background is muted as if it's out of focus and the birds stand out in relief. Wow! The colors are truly amazing. Thank you so much for taking extra care in the packing as well! Please tell me if there is something special that needs to be done to prevent the silk from deteriorating or if there are any maintenance issues I should be aware of. Thank you so much!

Dear Frank! Hope you are doing well and still enjoy my paintings! Just wanted to recommend you look at the painting in my collection, "Alfama. Lisbon. Portugal Vine." This painting was designed as a complementary painting for the Alfama painting that you already have in your collection. It is not necessarily a diptych, but if you still have space in your collection it may create a good addition to it! Thank you very much for your previous purchase. Cheers, Yelena
