I am a professional oil painter. I would say my work is impressionistic with a contemporary flair. I take my inspiration from Mother Nature, working in my studio or in plein air when possible. Subject matter include landscapes, florals, and abstracts. Regardless of the subject, my focus is on the quality of light, movement, texture and color harmony. I am especially drawn to the principles of Yin and Yang in art. I love thick paint next to thin, warm against cool color, transparent next to opaque paint, and active areas next to peaceful ones.
I texture the canvas, then brush on thin transparent color. I continue to add thicker paint using brushes and palette knives. I plan my painting ahead using sketches, a value pattern, and color choices. Then I allow intuition and spontaneity to take over, enjoying the process.
I am a founding member of the Plein Air Painters of Idaho and a member of the Oil Painters of America.
