Scott Troxel
Marmora, New Jersey

Mixed media artist Scott Troxel has always been fascinated with modern art and design. He pursued filmmaking in college, and later went on to a career in industrial design and product development. He now works mostly with wood to create abstract wall sculptures. Scott’s process involves breaking down objects or emotions to their abstract forms. The hard-edged lines of his sculptures have a discernible visual connection to mid-century modern design. The architectural forms in each piece juxtapose materials and textures varying from raw and exposed to polished and finished. Scott’s work explores themes of old versus new, organic versus manmade, futuristic versus vintage. The inherent tension in the art is relieved by a harmonic sense of visual balance.

Thank you Candice for the kind words about Zanzibar and my other work. It makes me happy knowing you are enjoying the painting. I will be adding new work shortly, as I am working on pieces for both Ugallery and a solo show I have coming up in August. Thank you again for your purchase.

I purchased Zanzibar a few weeks ago and am really enjoying the painting - bright "grab you" colors and intensity pulled together into a cohesive but dramatic piece - a joy to view throughout the day and evenings when the painting takes on a more muted look. Have to say I like quite a few of Scott's pieces. Feel he is very talented fellow!

Over the last week I wasn't feeling very "painterly". Sometimes I envy artists that stick to one medium or discipline. Say watercolor landscapes for instance. I am not sure why, but sometimes I just need to paint and other times, I really want nothing to do with an empty canvas. There are times were I just simply need to get out to the woodshop, look at some raw materials and start crafting a new wall sculpture. The creative desire is the same at the root, but the process is so different. Each process is equally satisfying but so different. Like having a cup of tea or a cup of coffee. Sometimes you just want one or the other I suppose.

I am very excited to be working on some new pieces for UGallery. Right now I have a few large canvases, 3-4 wood wall sculptures and an entire stack of reclaimed wood (Which I have not figured out what to make from them yet-but the texture is fantastic) in front of me. I have so many ideas but only so much time in the day. Better get to it!
