Pandalana Williams Kernersville, North Carolina

Before approaching the canvas, Pandalana Williams uses her vivid imagination to picture her subject in her mind's eye. While envisioning what she wants to paint, she imagines herself seeing it from all angles or playing it in her head like a movie. She especially enjoys painting from life, either from a still life she sets up or from plein air painting. It is not just an object to me, or just a place, but something that has created an emotion, she explains. When she paints, she enjoys listening to chamber or classical music. Normally, she spends about four hours a day in the studio but also enjoys taking walks in the woods with binoculars in tow.

    Artist Statement

Yes, I am one of "those" artists who spent her life chasing a reality that others laid out for her - and stumbled and faltered along the way; from daydreaming of being true to her heart. No longer able to sludge through others expectations; I have come home to my box of crayons.

I paint to breathe, to live, to love. I am primarily a self-taught artist; having completed some drawing courses in college. I emmerse myself with creativity; and am continually learning through online courses, blogs, and books. I am awed by color theory. My favorite book so far is Dynasty of Light followed by Alla Prima.

I have been controlled by the forces of creativity since I was a very young girl. I would talk and sing to the birds, butterflies, bugs, rocks, trees, grass; and everything in my world - or try to create them with my crayons.

    I am still that girl.

The Royal Flychatcher with gold leaf was so much fun to create! They are amazing little birds and I hope I was able to truely capture it in my art. I used teeny tiny brushes to get the details just right. I am so happy you love it!

Thank you, again! "Nesting" is my favorite fox painting I have done, to date. I am thrilled it is in your home with some of its friends. "Summer Rose" is on its way to you now. I hope you love it as much as the others! The roses are in full bloom in my garden now; and will have more paintings of them soon; as well as the Hummingbirds that visit near them.
