The great plains in central North Dakota ingrained in me a deep love of nature and respect for the land and environment. The great plains endless horizon, which I experienced daily, instilled in me a keen affinity and respect for nature and a sense of space which are seen throughout my work. My love of all things in nature allows me to explore all manner of concepts from contemporary landscape to environmental degradation to politics. I build up my surfaces layer upon layer, each layer informing the next. At times whole layers or bits of layers are removed to expose what has come before. This layering and removal process provides a dialog between myself and the work. Eventually the piece evolves and a color and pictorial order is produced from this give and take process.
