Harper defines her painting style as this... "with each new piece, I want to push my artistic boundaries. Constantly challenge what I think I know about painting and my subject matter. I have a deep appreciation for the traditional, realistic painting styles of the great masters. I spent many years trying to emulate them and the result left me feeling somehow unsatisfied. The work felt static to me. There was nothing unexpected or untold to beguile the viewer. I wanted a painting style that felt more alive. So I began my journey into exploring the line between realism and abstraction. As daunting and unpredictable as this contemporary style is to execute; I purposely try to entice the paint to behave badly and the brushstrokes to go rogue because, I feel, only then will the essence of the subject matter be revealed."
Her current series is inspired by her love of horses. Enchanting and beautifully majestic creatures. "To see a horse is to see an angel on earth" – unknown.
