My husband and I took our first real vacation in a long time to Tennessee! What a beautiful country. It gave me many ideas for painting. I create my bright colors from the three primary and a few pure secondary transparent watercolor paints. This ensures clear bright color. I like bright color and happy subjects. Warm and cool colors are laid on top of each other to give the effect of shadowed areas where light is and is not. Paper is left white to show the highest contrast between light and dark. This is a long process but I enjoy watching the painting develop and come alive over time. This piece is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Nancy

Nancy Muren likes to slow down and appreciate the unique qualities in overlooked items. She feels that in our rapid lifestyle, and with all our new gadgets, “we might miss something very interesting and beautiful.” That’s what she hopes to portray in her paintings. She also finds inspiration in her four grown children. When she’s not painting, she enjoys walking, swimming, riding her bike and hunting for treasures at thrift stores and estate sales. She currently lives in California. Fun fact: on her dad’s side, her ancestors were on the first boat of settlers headed to the shores of Quebec, Canada.
