Still Waters is featured in the book “Splash 16 - The Best of Watercolor: Exploring Texture.” One of the things that drew me to this scene from the start was the contrast in texture - the smooth flowing water against the craggy, rocky cliff. I love to paint texture, using both a palette knife and various brushes. Watercolor allows you to pour the paint on the paper, which was the perfect technique for communicating the smooth water. This painting is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Jill

Jill E Poyerd brings “peaceful, contemplative moments” to life on the canvas. She approaches the canvas with little preparation, instead allowing herself total freedom to create. Both her watercolor and oil painting works depict gorgeous scenes of nature with a style distinctly her own. Something as common as a tree appears soft and ethereal through Jill’s painterly style. Fun fact: she’s quite a history buff and loves reading historical biographies.
