This is a springtime picture of a farm in the foothills, just outside of San Francisco, CA. I often gather multiple photos of places I have been to make a single composition. For this piece, I drove around in order to find beautiful colors, shapes and shadows in order to make a wonderful composition. I am interested in light and intrigued with the shapes it produces. I typically create bright colors from the primary, and a few pure secondary transparent watercolor paints. This ensures a clear bright color. Watercolor is the ideal medium for expressing light due to its transparent nature. By combining the use of watercolor paper, layering transparent paint, and allowing time for the paint to dry between each glaze, the result is colors that glow through each other.

This piece is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Nancy

Nancy Muren likes to slow down and appreciate the unique qualities in overlooked items. She feels that in our rapid lifestyle, and with all our new gadgets, “we might miss something very interesting and beautiful.” That’s what she hopes to portray in her paintings. She also finds inspiration in her four grown children. When she’s not painting, she enjoys walking, swimming, riding her bike and hunting for treasures at thrift stores and estate sales. She currently lives in California. Fun fact: on her dad’s side, her ancestors were on the first boat of settlers headed to the shores of Quebec, Canada.
