This piece is from my City Life series. This painting was started with an under-glaze technique, which gives the painting an overall warmth and creates color unity. The under-glazing is revealed through the sky, light specks on the buildings, and the glow of the street. The painting is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Judy

For Judy Mudd, creating a work of art means much more than simply reproducing something she sees. “It is more than painting a subject, it is expressing a feeling,” she explains. Judy develops her paintings with thorough reconnaissance work. She goes out on photo shoots in a variety of atmospheric conditions, sketches outdoors, takes notes, and completes color and value studies. From there, back in the studio, she lets the paintbrush guide her. Outside of painting, Judy also runs a real estate business with her husband. In many ways, her work in real estate can be seen via the architectural influences in her watercolors.
