Inspired by a scene just outside Berea, KY, what got my attention was the shape of the house and the light reflecting on the green roof. As I explored the scene further, I noted the car in the yard and decided to add that to the painting giving it a sense of place and time. I envisioned the workers clearing the field of winter debris and preparing it for spring planting.

This watercolor painting is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Judy

For Judy Mudd, creating a work of art means much more than simply reproducing something she sees. “It is more than painting a subject, it is expressing a feeling,” she explains. Judy develops her paintings with thorough reconnaissance work. She goes out on photo shoots in a variety of atmospheric conditions, sketches outdoors, takes notes, and completes color and value studies. From there, back in the studio, she lets the paintbrush guide her. Outside of painting, Judy also runs a real estate business with her husband. In many ways, her work in real estate can be seen via the architectural influences in her watercolors.
