My husband and I explored the roads along the Russian River near Santa Rosa, California--moving up, down, over bridges, and finding surprises around every turn. We discovered this lovely spot to paint: a small vineyard and winery on a sunny spring morning. I collected many ideas for future compositions while driving through the forests, small farms, vineyards, and wineries. I like to use pure primary and secondary watercolor paints so I have control over my colors, keeping them clean and cheerful. I use a method of layering color to slowly develop the colors, lights, and darks. In this way, I bring this beauty to you. The image size excluding margins is 11 x 14 inches. This piece will need to be framed in order to hang.

Getting to Know Nancy

Nancy Muren likes to slow down and appreciate the unique qualities in overlooked items. She feels that in our rapid lifestyle, and with all our new gadgets, “we might miss something very interesting and beautiful.” That’s what she hopes to portray in her paintings. She also finds inspiration in her four grown children. When she’s not painting, she enjoys walking, swimming, riding her bike and hunting for treasures at thrift stores and estate sales. She currently lives in California. Fun fact: on her dad’s side, her ancestors were on the first boat of settlers headed to the shores of Quebec, Canada.
