This piece was inspired by a visit with the black bear at the Portland Zoo. I couldn't resist his unique pose and soulful eyes as he looked up at us.

Amy Rattner is a Bay Area artist who paints vibrant animal portraits inspired by the American southwest. Her acrylic and watercolor paintings use strong lines, vivid colors, and symbolic patterns to convey the spiritual, mythological, and cultural significance of various animals. After receiving her BA and MA from Stanford University, she began her artistic career as a graphic designer. The vivid, stylized quality of her work today reflects her background. Amy is interested in examining the influential role that animals have played through different cultures and societies.
