Artwork

The colors of winter gleam in artist Karin Johannesson's ethereal display of flowers. She depicts an interpretation of a winter field in Ontario, Canada. Flourishing foliage emerges from the snow in full bloom. The composition features a dynamic and calming midnight blue palette with amber hints.

Karin Johannesson

Waterloo, Canada

Artist Karin Johannesson paints delicate watercolors showing flowers of every season. Her fresh impressionist style captures the elegance of fleeting flora. As a self-trained artist, instinct guides her when using her medium in unconventional ways. "My process is spontaneous and intuitive - I like to work quickly and complete my paintings in one or two sittings," says Karin. She listens to music as she paints at her home studio in Canada, where things can occasionally get messy. But she likes to organize her workspace once everything dries. Her loose brushwork draws influence from minimalism, abstract, and pop culture. To relax, she relishes fine dining, piano playing, and Zumba. Karin also works as an art teacher and a mother of two, where her young sons' artistic talents inspire her as she creates new work. Karin's pieces have been featured in The Watercolor Ideas Book and A Watercolor a Day: 365 Tips and Ideas for Improving Your Skills and Creativity.

You have done orchids justice in a way that is not often seen...it is as though they are floating lightly across the page, barely even whispering. Stunning!

Hi, Thanks for your comment! Some books I would recommend would be Jean Haines, and Shirley Trevena. Michelle Brown as a great online course as well. Hope that helps!
