What drew me to this scene was the striking contrast between the white branches of the winter sycamore trees and the deep, dark clouds of an oncoming storm. I also loved the limited palette of muted tones, and the contrast in texture between the sky and the foreground - accentuated by using a pouring technique for the sky. This painting was featured in the 2017 Baltimore Watercolor Society Mid-Atlantic Exhibition.

Getting to Know Jill

Jill E Poyerd brings “peaceful, contemplative moments” to life on the canvas. She approaches the canvas with little preparation, instead allowing herself total freedom to create. Both her watercolor and oil painting works depict gorgeous scenes of nature with a style distinctly her own. Something as common as a tree appears soft and ethereal through Jill’s painterly style.
