About this artwork

A culinary-themed still life by artist Dwight Smith rendered in the realist tradition. He paints a luscious red apple resting inside a large shell. Light falls from the right corner of the composition illuminating the scene, casting shadows to the left. A clam's shell or pie shell crust are both naturally made, says Dwight. Only one of them is softer and tastes better.
