In order to convey a peaceful, open feeling but still maintain a sense of drama, I approached the brushwork with a confident, fresh application and then complemented it with striking values in the trees, explains artist Jill Poyerd. The contrast and areas of white paper provide atmosphere and a sense of openness that are essential to the painting.
