Bill Kreitlow painted this pastoral landscape from a photograph he took during a fall foliage trip to Waitsfield, Vermont. "Covered bridges have always intrigued me as a painting subject since water is almost always involved in the scene," he says. Bill beautifully captured the warm reflection of the autumn leaves in the still water. The sharp angles of the bridge offer an interesting contrast to the many soft shapes in the surrounding landscape.

Bill Kreitlow is a longtime lover of watercolor. He began experimenting with the medium in high school, and has continued to explore its properties and test its limits. Bill uses translucent layers of paint to create the effects of light, water, and atmosphere. His images capture serene natural vistas at seemingly magical moments. Bill finds inspiration in glassy water and wispy clouds, and uses his own photographs taken on day trips and vacations as source material. Though the images are a great starting point, the final paintings are always subject to Bill’s own interpretive lens.
