Yuriy says he sometimes feels a strong pull to paint completely abstract. For this work, he used masking tape. Layer after layer, he applied paint to the empty spots, allowing it to spread on wet paper. He describes it as "a bewitching sight." Although intentionally abstract, the work recalls a deep, receding landscape. Open hills topped with scrub brush lead the eye back to distant mountains and a cloudy sky overhead.
