About this artwork

Mt. Diablo has many faces, says artist Catherine McCargar. It can be seen from afar and up close. In this painting, Catherine captured the scene by standing from the east view of the mountain. She began her work in the tradition of plein air locating herself where she had a view of the trail, especially where it disappears into the patch of trees. I wanted the viewers' eye to rest and enjoy the play of shadows cast by the trees on the right, and the light kissing the edges of the hills.
