Bush Park is a very large park in the middle of downtown Salem, OR. There is so much happening, tennis, baseball, cross country, running competitions, football, as well as a famous annual art fair and an art gallery. But the part of the park I love the most is a large grove of oak trees, where every spring the floor is filled with chicory flowers. The scene creates such a beautiful color combination. I am very interested in light and how it defines form and shapes the mood that evolves. I take many photos of interesting light patterns, as light is always so fleeting. I gather the photos to make a composition, draw, and then paint to watch the art piece develop before me. This painting is on heavyweight paper and will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Nancy

Nancy Muren likes to slow down and appreciate the unique qualities in overlooked items. She feels that in our rapid lifestyle, and with all our new gadgets, “we might miss something very interesting and beautiful.” That’s what she hopes to portray in her paintings. She also finds inspiration in her four grown children. When she’s not painting, she enjoys walking, swimming, riding her bike and hunting for treasures at thrift stores and estate sales. She currently lives in California. Fun fact: on her dad’s side, her ancestors were on the first boat of settlers headed to the shores of Quebec, Canada.
