This painting was inspired by a visit to Amelia Island a few years ago.  I was photographing a boatyard where repairs were being made on various boats.  These two were sitting to the side of the yard, waiting for some much needed attention.  They looked as if they had been there a while and had been set aside. Using a complementary color scheme, I used reds and greens to make the painting pop with color.

Getting to Know Judy

For Judy Mudd, creating a work of art means much more than simply reproducing something she sees. “It is more than painting a subject, it is expressing a feeling,” she explains. Judy develops her paintings with thorough reconnaissance work. She goes out on photo shoots in a variety of atmospheric conditions, sketches outdoors, takes notes, and completes color and value studies. From there, back in the studio, she lets the paintbrush guide her. Outside of painting, Judy also runs a real estate business with her husband. In many ways, her work in real estate can be seen via the architectural influences in her watercolors.
