This piece is a symbol for overcoming the inherit "slave morality" as coined by Nietzsche, which represents weakness, pessimism and cynicism in order to gain the "will to power," which is optimism, strength, goodness and value of action (ambition). 'Programmed' is a ready-to-hang abstract contemporary sculpture made of a combination of two smooth hardwoods and two 'light' but rough building woods, creating a balanced unity. A part of the body of work "A.R.01."

Getting to Know Ethan

Ethan is a young emerging sculptor in Los Angeles. His work is dichotomic; he pairs wood, an organic material, with hard-edge geometry. Made up of clean, contemporary lines, Ethan’s wall sculptures also juxtapose woods that are considered “refined” or “exotic” with woods that are typically used for industrial purposes. The art continues to perpetuate the theme of duality; each piece representing a balanced equilibrium between opposing forces.
