This monotype is part of an "extra busy" series that deals with the theme "Where do we go?" It has two gate-like areas with ambiguous figures in a strange landscape.

This one-of-a-kind piece is pressed on Rives BFK, a thick, high-quality 280 gsm printmaking paper. The actual image size is approximately 20x13 inches and it will need a frame for display.

Getting to Know Simon Shawn

Abstract yet allegorical, Simon’s monotype prints cannot be digested in a single glance. Forms and figures emerge from great swirling masses, encouraging greater exploration of his detailed images. The compositions meld mechanical and organic shapes to address complex relationships between the body, spiritual creation, and technology. Each work is rich in value, ranging from deep black to pure white. “I was an unhappy oil painter for eight years before stumbling across printmaking,” says Simon. Drawing on his painting experience, monotyping gave Simon a more tactile and physical way of working. Today, he finds inspiration in Greek mythology, medieval art, biblical stories, and his overgrown backyard in British Columbia.
