A long exposure night photograph looking west from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. High contrast of the bright busy street below and the buildings that are cast in deep shadows. The clouds above appear to be traveling at top speeds. "This image was made on medium format film, developed by hand and scanned digitally at the highest resolution," shares photographer Adam Garelick.

Adam Garelick

West Hartford, Connecticut

Adam Garelick enjoys taking photographs that challenge the viewers’ perceptions of certain subjects. His photographs of New York try to capture a much quieter city than the fast-paced metropolis most people picture. To capture his unique snapshots, he primarily shoots late at night and works in black-and-white photography. The photography of artists like Stephen Shore and Robert Adams continue to influence his work. When he’s not photographing, he tries to be outdoors as much as possible; he enjoys golfing, running and hiking. Even during these activities, he looks for new subjects to photograph. He currently lives in Connecticut.
