"Desert Birds at Rest brings nature, global stewardship, and personal introspection into view," says Erik. "The beauty of the image serves to spark conversation about issues facing us all, both personally and as a world community. The distinct grain of the image comes from the analog film it was created with, while also reflecting the rough nature of our surroundings."
With a resume that includes working with photography giants Herb Ritts and Francesco Scavullo, Erik successfully applies the skills acquired in his commercial photography career to his fine art practice. Erik’s photographs have a compelling air of mystery and surreality. Many of the images were originally shot on analog film, resulting in a grainy and authentic aesthetic. On occasion, the viewer may not initially realize they are looking at a photograph. Erik explains, “My pieces always begin with a concept that comes from an emotion I’m seeking to convey or a story I’m trying to tell.” He then selects a location and subject to support his concept, often using metaphor as a device to present his ideas. Skillfully manipulating the medium of photography, Erik continually produces deliberate, striking, and thought-provoking compositions.
